I'm going to share a little secret with you about the way I think and operate. A little piece of my identity in a couple ways, and a bit of the raison d'ĂȘtre for this blog.
The title of this blog is Beyond the Path; it's also the name of my business. And it's a good thing I'm explaining this right now because my roommate, Chris, is harassing me for not producing a similarly cool name out of thin air for his own fancy new blog (check it out, he's smart!). Well, Chris, thanks for the inspiration for starting this thing. Here's where the name really comes from.
According to the interweb, "Zadrozny" comes from za droga — Polish for "beyond the road" (or "way," or "path"). The various connotations really resonate with my active imagination, and I think the name suits me.
I appreciate the connotation of pushing past frontiers, exploring the unkown, venturing into uncharted territory. As a person who operates in ideas and concepts — dare I say visionary? idealist? — I resonate with the idea of pursuing a vision that goes beyond that which is well-known. As an introvert, I enjoy the connotation of isolation, peace and quiet, solitude. Of refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Jesus, as recorded in the gospel of Matthew, says, "Wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the path that leads to life, and only a few find it." As a disciple of Christ, I am intensely interested in examining and pursuing that which lies beyond the path.
All of which leads us to a core idea, a central question that hovers behind human existence: what lies beyond? What is the logical conclusion of my assumptions? Of my worldview? Where am I blindly following the broad road beaten down by society before me, and how do I strike out into something new and unique?
These are questions I'll be asking herein. Most of all, I want to explore some of the challenges and the rewards of life beyond the path. Of course, this being not much more than your average blahg, I make no particular claim or warranty as to quality or consistency, but, hey, let's give this thing a shot.
'Til next time... :)
